METRO TO HOST ALFRED MTSI GAMES AS PART OF YOUTH DAY
The Buffalo City Metro will be hosting the Alfred Mtsi Games at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday, June 17.

Previously known as the Mayor’s Cup, this annual tournament has since been renamed in honour of the late former Executive Mayor and Speaker of Council, Councillor Alfred Mtsi.

The Alfred Mtsi Games will feature hundreds of young people competing in sporting action from under 19s in soccer, netball, boxing, volleyball, table tennis, goalball and rugby.

The Games are part of a series of activities that are aimed at supporting and developing young people by doing practical activities instead of a rally format youth month commemoration.

Earlier this week, the Metro signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Youth Development Agency aimed at empowering BCM youth on Skills Development, Scholarship and Quality Education, Social Cohesion and Nation Building, Job Creation and Small Business Development.

The Metro also emphasises that there is significance in hosting the Games on the June 16 weekend as “it is a commemoration of the heroic sacrifices of the youth of 1976 of which Councillor Mtsi’s generation was part of”.

Through sports, young people are occupied with being healthy active and focus on developing their talent instead of being pre-occupied with subsistence abuse.

Also on the cards is a music show featuring national award winner Betusile.

The Alfred Mtsi Games start at 09:00 and entrance is free.
