WORK RESUMES AT EBUHLANTI
The Buffalo City Metro is delighted to announce that the eBuhlanti (Marina Glen) construction site has now resumed.

It's been quite a challenge to have not been able to operate and ultimately miss our original planned deadlines but as things stand now, the contractor is on site and we are hard at work.

We have acknowledged and take responsibility for the shortcoming in as far as the reasons that led to the site being closed and we appealed and pleaded with national government to reduce the fine, of which our plea was granted, and this was paid accordingly.

We anticipate that it will take us well into 2025 to finish the construction work on the site, estimated up to 10 months, considering all the factors that include the Xmas and New Years closures and persist rainy seasons, but we are determined to renovate and revamp this site to fulfil its maximum potential.

We want to apologize to the communities that have been inconvenienced by this and we want to assure them that we will deliver a recreational site that will add value to all stakeholders concerned be it business, residents, the hawkers, beach goers etc

We will continue allowing the opposite site, little Mauritius, being utilized as temporary area for operating so that there are economic benefits that are trickling.

Our project steering committee also includes hawkers so they are part of the updates of developments on site.

Our traffic department will continue managing traffic flow in that area. As we move towards the busier period of the year, we want to plead for tolerance and adherence to all road users so that we can avoid congestions.

The site will be constantly monitored by the security cluster led by the South African Police Services, to maintain law and order at all times.

An oversight visit and walk-about was conducted by MMC for Infrastructure and Engineering Services Cllr Yomelela Tyali, Head of Department Nomfanelo Mqoqi-Mondi, Senior managers, project managers and technicians in Ebuhlanti.

Tyali said consequence management will take effect as part of the procedures of the Metro as wasteful expenditure was reported.

MMC Tyali said the Head of Department Mqoqi-Mondi has resolved the matter of Ebuhlanti and Toyana Road and Mdantsane 4b project in Ward 14.

These were projects that could not proceed because of a number of issues but HOD’s intervention, together with senior managers, project managers and technicians everything will be back to normal.

“All these three projects were not moving because of different challenges but now, because of the leadership of the HOD, they are back in full force. We want good governance for our people, and we do not want any other delays when it comes to these projects.

“As BCMM we need to respond to the needs of the communities we are serving and to do that, we need a leadership that is led by HOD Mqoqi-Mondi. We are making sure that the projects that we are doing are running without any hindrance.”
