BCM LAUNCHES WELLNESS CENTRE AS VACCINATION SITE FOR ITS WORKFORCE
On Thursday, 29 July 2021, Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality together with the Department of Health officially launched the Vaccination Program for BCMM councillors and employees.

uests who attended the launch include the Executive Deputy Mayor Helen Neale-May, City Manager Andile Sihlahla, Honourable MMC Bongiwe Sauli, Department Heads, Wellness Centre officials and Department of Health officials.

BCM Executive Deputy Mayor Helen Neale-May said: “The opening of this vaccination site will serve as an accelerant to the roll out of this much needed vaccine. It is with these words in mind when I express my excitement at the opening of our own vaccination site.”

“As much as today is a win for us we would be remiss to not mention the increasing numbers of infection, with Buffalo City recording 737 in the last 48 hours in those same hours 38 deaths have been recorded. We pray for comfort for the grieving families.”

“The Deputy Executive Mayor added: “We are aware that they are many myths around the vaccines created by skeptics which create fear for our people. I am a living example that the vaccination is safe as I Vaccinated in May at Cecilia Makhiwane Hosipital.”

“Our Vaccination site will benefit more than 5500 of our employees both permanent and temporally employed. This will also benefit all our councilors and chiefs.”

Advocate Boniswa Mzimba , BM General Manager, for the Health Department, explained the purpose of the vaccination program saying: “Buffalo City has a huge staff component and in order for us to respond to the service delivery of the municipality, we have to ensure that employees of the Buffalo City and the councillors are vaccinated."

“Today is about ceiling the relationship between the Department of Health and Buffalo City Metro Municipality ,and about the commitment to the response to COVID-19," Advocate Mzimba elaborated.

The City has set aside three days (28 July, 29 July and 30 July) for the vaccination of various departments in the City which include Public Safety Traffic, Law Enforcement, Fire, Disaster and Health. The vaccination program is inline with the national program of frontline workers.
