BUFFALO CITY OFFERS RATES REBATE RELIEF TO VULNERABLE CITIZENS
As part of efforts to alleviate the socioeconomic pressures under lockdown, the Buffalo City Metro is offering its vulnerable citizens a rates relief.

The Metro is calling on qualifying BCM citizens to take advantage and apply for its rates rebate relief rollout campaign for the this financial year.
 
In order to qualify for a rebate, a senior/retired person or disabled property owner must meet the following requirements:

(i) Be the owner of a property categorized as residential;
(ii) Occupy the property as his/her primary residence or where the owner is unable to occupy the property due to no fault of his/her own, the spouse and/or minor children must occupy the property;
(iii) The retired person must be at least 60 years of age on 1 July of the financial year concerned;
(iv) If the retired person turns 60 during the financial year, the rebate will be granted on a pro rata basis from the date on which the applicant turns 60 or on which the application is received;
(v) Must be in receipt of gross monthly income (excluding medical contributions) not exceeding R15,000.00 from all sources including income of spouse and
(vi) Submit an application annually.

In determining the pensioners rebate, all sources of income of the owner of the property are considered and the percentage rebate granted to the different gross income levels.

The application form which must be completed and signed by both applicant(s) and Commissioner of Oaths, is available on the Buffalo City Metro website for download.

The application form must be accompanied by the following supporting documents including spouse:
• 3 months’ bank statement;
• Disabled persons/ pensioners who are in receipt of a disability grant/pension must submit proof thereof, e.g. recent letter from SASSA;
• Certified ID’s;
• In relation to relief sought under medical boarding, the applicant must produce a medical certificate from the pension fund indicating that the applicant is medically boarded.  Doctors’ and Hospital certificates/reports are not acceptable and
• The applicant’s most recent income tax return may be requested to verify applicant’s income level.
 
The form must be submitted directly to: The Rates & Valuations Section, Old Mutual Bldg,3rd Floor, office room no. 331/ office room no. 332 as well as BCM offices in Mdantsane City NU6, Beacon Bay, Gonubie, Civic Centre in King Williams Town or email the form to Nompumelelop@buffalocity.gov.za with supporting documents.They will be accepted throughout the year.
