Remembering Tata Mandela by Giving Back
Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality celebrated the annual Mandela Day by visiting a day care center and a school for the physically challenged in Tsholomnqa. The Metro’s leadership together with Standard Bank handed over reading material and painted the centres.

The Nelson Mandela International Day is held on the late former President’s birthday Nelson Mandela which is on the 18th of July. Speaking at Ngothando School for children with disability, Deputy Mayor Zoliswa Matana said: “The 67 minutes is for doing good by landing a hand. Tata Madiba loves us all and he left us with the greatest gift of giving back.” Asanda Tyali from Standard Bank said, “We could not let this opportunity go it symbolizes everything Madiba stands for we are happy to be making a difference to the community of Xhamini.” Culminating the day, Matana together with the Buffalo City Pakistan Association led by their President Moazzah Zia handed out food parcels to 30 day care centres, senior citizens and people living with disabilities who were identified by Ward Councillors at the East London City Hall on Wednesday afternoon. “We are here to share the little that we have, if we had the resources, we would give out parcels to the whole of BCM. We targeted the day care centres because there is nothing Tata valued more than children because he believed they are the future,” said Matana. Zia echoed her words and said, “We as the Pakistan community we are happy to be here and be part of the Mandela Day, we remember him to be a giving man who had peace, that is why it was so easy for us to contribute on this day."
