The community of Ducats is a hive of activity with the Metro conducting activities as part of its Mandela Day programme.

Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor Councillor Xola Pakati is in ward 15 Ducats leading a program that is handing over much needed water tanks.

The area is experiencing water challenges. Also included in the program is the handing over of sport kits and sanitaty towels to the youths in the area.

The sports kits were for males and females in the sports of football and netball including netball takkies and sanitary packs.

The Executive Mayor is accompanied by Mayoral Committee member Councillor Mawethu Marata and Ward Councillor

Speaking about the programme, Councillor Pakati said it is important that the community to

“We have are donating more rain water tanks in this area because there are challenges of water cuts as we are busy upgrading our infrastructure, so we want a short term provision that will enable us to assist.”

He said the donation of kits was meant to encourage the youths to take up recreational activities.

“It is important to embody the spirit of Madiba, who himself was a sportsman and one of the practical ways of doing so is encourage local teams to continue playing,” said Councillor Pakati.
