Ward Demarcation Board visits the City
The Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) visited the Metro on Friday, 14 February as part of the process to engage residents on the proposed Ward Delimitation process for 2018-2020.

 

The event was held at the Orient Theatre in the Esplanade.

Every five years, the MDB delimits wards in Metropolitan and Local Municipalities for electoral purposes. The process must be concluded ideally not less than 10 months before the local government elections.

Welcoming guests at the event Speaker of Council Alfred Mtsi said, “This is a process that takes places every five years and it is very important to do as we know each year we expand. After everything that has been discussed here today will be taken back to the board for further discussing.”

Over 300 people from all 50 wards of the City assembled at the hall to hear the proposed plans which was presented by Determination and Delimitation Specialist Ayanda Monkhe.

Addressing the crowd Monkhe said, “The aim of the meeting is to allow stakeholders and members of the public an opportunity to make inputs on the first set of draft wards and assist the MDB on how their wards should be configured.”

“This is a critical phase of the ward delimitation process as it allows the citizens to have a say in the configuration of their wards,” she said.

At the end of the session residents were asked to write down their grievances and give them to the officials.

The MDB will then consider the inputs before determining the wards for publication for objections in May 2020.

Forms for laying any complaints will be available as of Monday,17 February 2020 in the following venues:

King William’s Town Library, Mdantsane Library and East London in the Trust Centre Building.
