Buffalo City Economic Development and Agencies department handed over equipment to about 38 BCM based Tourism SMMEs today 10 May 2026 at BCMM Tourism Offices, kuGOMPO City.
This is part of government's initiative to assist informal traders through the Informal Micro Enterprise Development program.
The program aims at empowering and developing informal traders to become skilled and adequately equipped to manage their businesses.
Speaking at the event, BCM Deputy Mayor Princess Faku said, “Today marks yet another important milestone in our collective efforts to build a stronger local economy and create sustainable opportunities for our people.
“As Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, we understand that economic development is not only about statistics and policies. It is about people. It is about creating opportunities, supporting entrepreneurs and ensuring that our communities share in the benefits of economic growth.”
“Through our Directorate of Economic Development and Agencies, we have allocated R1 million towards Tourism Recovery Support and a further R600 000 towards Creative Industry Support during the 2025/26 financial year.”
“These resources are being invested directly into our people and businesses because we believe that small enterprises are the backbone of local economic development.”
“Today, fifteen tourism businesses and twenty-five creative industry enterprises will receive much-needed operational equipment.These businesses have demonstrated commitment, resilience and a willingness to contribute towards the growth of our city and its economy,” said Faku. “Today marks yet another important milestone in our collective efforts to build a stronger local economy and create sustainable opportunities for our people.”
