BCMM SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT MEETS WITH SMMEs: INLAND REGION
Over 70 SMMEs attended the first e-Procurement Supplier Roadshows on Monday, 29 May at two different venues in the Inland Region.

The first venue at Moses Twebe Hall in Dimbaza, where suppliers and vendors gather to listen and get more information about the e-Procurement processes. Welcoming guests at the Dimbaza event, Acting Senior Manager Demand and Database Management, Mandisa Dumako said that the process is set to make life easy for vendors. “This process is set by the City to make life easy for each vendor and supplier who wishes to be part of the Metro’s supplier database programme. The system is there to make an easy flow of work for both the Supply Chain Management Department and the Vendors.”

She further explained that the roadshows are meant for those vendors wanting to trade with the City and supplying the City with services costing between R0.01 until R30 000. “These are formally known as Request for Quotation tenders (RQF) or Informal Tenders.”

Adding to that General Manager for Supply Chain David Gwabeni said that these tenders are usually available on the City’s website and vendors are requested to deliver within a space of four days. “Failure to deliver requested goods or services within the specified time, the vendor will be disqualified and another one will be chosen to do the job.”

Giving her closing statement for the day, Portfolio Head for Finance NomaAfrika Maxongo said that we are happy to have met with the SMMEs today and “we are looking forwarding to engaging with you more in the next leg of the roadshows.”

“We are grateful for the issues raised including that the SMMEs have a challenge with using the system. This is a platform to ensure that our system is neutral and teach them how to navigate our system and maybe at some point we have to sit down and assist them with registering on the system.”

The day culminated with a visit at the war Memorial Hall in King William’s Town.
