TRANSNET LAUNCHES MANGANESE EXPORT TO BOOST BCM'S ECONOMY
Transnet in partnership with the Eastern Cape Government officially launched the Manganese Export through the TPT East London Multi-purpose terminal(MPT) on Tuesday 3 October 2023 at the Port of East London.

The project will enable 4 additional manganese trains per week equivalent to 0.5 mtpa of export capacity for the industry, optimal usage of the underuterlised East London mainline via Bloemfontein and the Port of East London and economic spinoffs include jock creation and a major boost for the economy.

"The objective is to respond to the needs of the customers by providing appropriate logistics capacity through the East London rail and port flow," said Sandile Sangqu, Transnet Board Chairperson.

This will also enable the growth of the Manganese segment, in line with the Transnet's segmentation and TFR turnaround strategies and focus on densification of freight on the East London rail line as well as the East London Multi-purpose Terminal.

Delivering welcoming address during the launch, BCM Executive Mayor Princess Faku said, "We, as Buffalo City wholeheartedly welcome this Manganese export development, recognizing it as a major milestone in unlocking the potential of our port."
