SALGA EASTERN CAPE AND LIBERTY YOUTH DAY COMMEMORATION
The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in the Eastern Cape in partnership with Liberty and Buffalo City Metro Municipality participated in hands-on local-level projects which aim to contribute to the development of the children and youth who are the leaders of the future.

This ongoing and striving partnership has given rise to a winter shoe drive initiative. This morning 6 June 2023 saw Sinomonde Primary in Greenfields as the identified school of choice.

Executive Mayor for BCMM Princess Faku handed over 300 shoes to the learners at Sinomonde Primary School and said, “We are here today to handover these shoes to you my children, no one will not come to school because they do not have shoes especially in such a cold winter.”
“You are the future presidents of this county, the next school principals, nurses, police and even the next mayors of this City,” Faku added.
Sanitary pads were also left at the school for when learners will need them.

This initiative is part of SALGA and Liberty's commitment towards the development of education holistically, as they believe that education is the corner stone of economic development and a means through which young people can be empowered.

SALGA and Liberty have been leading this initiative together since 2017 and have donated over 5000 pairs of school shoes to 34 schools across the province.
Henceforth to commemorate youth month this year, SALGA and Liberty will this time around be donating school shoes to 1059 kids.
