Women in Business celebrated
Top business women of the City were celebrated on Thursday, 13 February 2020 at the King Club in King William’s Town during the Women in Business Awards winner’s luncheon hosted by the Economic Development and Agencies.

The 10 various categories were: Entrepreneur of the Year, Manufacturing, Innovative, Informal Trading, Tourism, Agriculture, Tourism, Hair and Beauty, ICT, Art and crafts.

 

Portfolio Head for Economic Development and Agencies Mzwandile Vaaiboom welcomed the phenomenal women and encouraged them to work even harder and go as far as mentoring upcoming business women saying, “The Municipality is all about empowerment and recognises women in business as well as the huge role in which they play. Before 1994, women were oppressed and this remains a challenge, they are still oppressed at work and by society at large women are the majority in our society, playing a big role in the fight against poverty, unemployment and inequality.”

 

General Manager for Trade, Industry and Sector Development Xolelwa Majiza shared the purpose of the event and said, “The purpose of the event is to recognise the role and contributions of women in economic growth as well as creation of a platform for dialogue for women business owners, women in politics, etc. Encourage cross pollination amongst well established businesses and emerging entrepreneurs to unlock investment opportunities that exist within the private sector for the growth of their businesses.”

 

25-year-old Sandiswa Mgolozeli founder of the public relations company Epitomely PRM won the Entrepreneur of the year award gave words of gratitude to BCMM and encouragement to her fellow business women. “A person as young as myself can do it, it is not about the age. Women who contribute in turning the tide against poverty, unemployment, economy and other societal issues through business, through your hard work and diligence you feed and sustain the nation.”

 

“Women who won the BCMM awards have displayed their extraordinary ability to match up the nature and values of the business tradition. Thank you BCM for recognising us in all our corners, we are from different industries for ongoing effort that is directed to SMME’s especially female SMME’s.”

 

“Thank you for promoting ideas of equality and women empowerment. It has not been an easy journey but the injection by BCM has helped. I promise to inspire and assist females in the region for us to produce rich metro,” she said.

 

The awards were held in August 2019.
