BCMM Executive Mayor Councillor Xola Pakati handed over 14 stalls to the informal traders and equipment for the SMMEs as well as Cooperatives of the City.

The handover was held on Wednesday 21 August at Mdantsane Sun Hotel to hawkers who sell their products near Cecilia Makiwane Hospital. Speaking during the occasion, Portfolio Head for Economic Development and Agencies Mzwandile Vaaiboom said, "The aim of the handover is to encourage BCMM SMMEs and Cooperatives as well as informal traders to operate in an improved and sustainable way." Adding to that, Acting General Manager for Trade and Industry Xolelwa Majiza said, “We understand the plight of informal traders in the City, hence we had to come on board to create an enabling environment for emerging businesses to grow and thrive." Pakati said that the initiative is a vehicle for job creation for the citizens of Buffalo City. "This is a very important moment for us because we believe that small businesses are real engines of economic development for our people as they ensure mass participation and have huge growth potential." The day culminated with a formal handover of machinery, cooler boxes, dry cleaning machines, bush clearing machines and car wash equipment.
