SMME's receive equipment
Buffalo City Economic Development and Agencies department handed over equipment to about 30 BCM based Tourism SMMEs on Friday, 02 August at Orient Theatre, East London.

Speaking about the purpose of the day, Portfolio Head of Economic Development and Agencies department councillor Mzwandile Vaaiboom said that the event is set to boost aspiring and emerging SMME’s in the City with equipment including air conditioners, microwaves, electric blankets, refrigerators, tables, coffee machines, HD TV screens, subwoofers speakers and four quad bikes. Vaaiboom said, "In the BCM we are fighting three enemies which are poverty, unemployment and inequality. Also, it was not a coincidence that we chose this day, but it is because most of our beneficiaries are mostly women owned businesses." He added that the equipment will help with the growth of the SMME' businesses. BCM Transport Chief Technician Khuselwa Marotya advised that the business owners and emphasized about the importance of clear and updated signage. An excited Lizelle Maurice, owner of the Park Place Boutique Hotel thanked BCM Tourism on behalf of the other beneficiaries. “On behalf of all the beneficiaries here today, I want to thank the City, thank you very much, to the councillor and the department. I think we all agree that this department has really shown that they are fulfilling their mandate of SMME development. I know that this contribution is going to add value to our products, it will make us more competitive. Siyabulela ngento yonke because we know as SMME’s how difficult things can be,” said Maurice. Among the many recipients Jeff’s Place, Umngeni Lodge, Ubuntu Guest House, Drifters Raceway, Phumlani’s Bed & Breakfast and Kwa Stuur Homestay in Newlands.
